Travelling on an airplane can be stressful, from making sure you arrive at the airport in time, to passing security, and not to mention the trip itself and getting stuck in a metal cabin flying in the air. Add losing your luggage, and the stress level his the roof (hopefully not when the plane is in the air). To avoid this situation, GlobalTrac has created the TrakDot, a small device that a traveler puts in their luggage. Similar to GPS, TrakDot only requires the user to register the device and enter some basic information such as the user’s phone number and email address. GlobalTrac is able to trace the location of the luggage according to its serial number. The user simply inserts the tracking device into their luggage. The device, which is quite intelligent, detects when it is air-bound, and turns off to save battery and to not disrupt the flight systems. Once the plane has landed, a text message or email is sent to the traveler, alerting the owner of the baggage’s location. The traveler now only needs to locate his luggage amidst the swarm of other travelers at the luggage carousel. At least now he has the peace-of-mind knowing his luggage has arrived.
